À propos

MedAdapt is a knowledge platform dedicated to strengthening the resilience of Mediterranean coastal and marine systems to climate change.

The platform brings together knowledge, tools and practical experience to support countries and coastal stakeholders in understanding climate risks and identifying effective adaptation responses.

By making regional knowledge accessible in one place, MedAdapt helps inform decision-making and support climate adaptation across Mediterranean coasts.

Why MedAdapt

Mediterranean coastal zones are among the most dynamic and valuable areas of the region. They host exceptional biodiversity, dense human settlements, cultural heritage, and major economic activities, all shaped by centuries of interactions between land and sea.

Today, these same coastal areas are increasingly exposed to climate change and growing development pressures. Rising sea levels, extreme weather events, ecosystem degradation and accelerating urbanisation are reshaping coastal realities across the Mediterranean.

Responding to these challenges requires accessible knowledge, shared experience, and practical tools to support informed planning and timely adaptation decisions.

What MedAdapt offers

MedAdapt brings together a range of knowledge resources designed to support climate adaptation and strengthen coastal resilience across the Mediterranean. The platform includes:

  • A wide range of adaptation options addressing climate risks in coastal and marine environments
  • Selected case studies from across the Mediterranean, highlighting practical experiences and lessons learned
  • Regional climate projections and information to help understand current trends and future risks
  • Thematic guidelines, handbooks and practical resources, covering topics from financing adaptation to strengthening coastal resilience
  • A video library presenting expert insights, project experiences and adaptation practices

Part of PAP/RAC’s work

MedAdapt platform is developed by the Priority Actions Programme / Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC), a Regional Activity Centre of the UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP).

Through its work on integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) and climate adaptation, PAP/RAC supports Mediterranean countries in advancing sustainable coastal development by protecting coastal ecosystems and landscapes and strengthening the resilience of coastal communities.

In doing so, it helps countries implement regional commitments such as the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management in the Mediterranean—the first legally binding regional instrument dedicated to ICZM—and the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Framework for the Mediterranean Marine and Coastal Areas 2026–2035.

MedAdapt contributes to this mission by making coastal adaptation and resilience knowledge and experience more accessible to policymakers, experts and coastal communities.
